Casinos Reduce Odds of Winning in BlackjackMay 11th, 2007 3:29pm PST
The King is getting reports that Blackjack, the best bet in Vegas, may not be so any more in a lot of the casinos on the strip. Next time you hit the tables please make sure you read the fine print on the table rules plastic card as some of them have recently changed. Vegas is rewriting the rules, turning a relatively fair game into a game that favors the house.
For now these changes have only been implemented in "fun" orientated casinos that usually cater to a party loving visitor that is, more often than not, under the influence of alcohol. The tables in these "fun" casinos King calls the "sucker tables".
These are the three changes that the casinos are implementing in an attempt to get more out of the beginner blackjack players:
Blackjack Payout is reduced to 6-5 from the standard 3-2
The dealer has to hit and not stand on a "soft 17" (an ace and a 6)
Casinos are not permitting the player to double-down on any two cards
All this is is a sign of times. People go to Vegas to have fun and the casinos are cashing in when they see an opportunity. So next time you intent to play, read the rules first, don't be a "sucker".
The King wonders how long it will take until all casinos implement these blackjack rule changes on all of their tables.
