Blackjack History

Blackjack came to fruition roughly the same time as roulette did, starting in back rooms in the early 20th century. Like many other games, blackjack went through various variations of the rules, most of which were to benefit the casinos and make their edge a little greater. Many early casinos offered larger payoffs if the players hit a blackjack, but gradually toned down the payoffs.

Blackjack remains such a popular game because the casino has such a small edge over the player, compared to a game like roulette. Blackjack is also a game of skill; a game of skill in which a knowledgable player can actually obtain an advantage over the casino.
